CLEVELAND – After absorbing their first loss of the season last week, the No. 6 Delta State Lady Statesmen (15-1, 4-1 GSC) aim to right the proverbial ship this week as they host Harding (9-8, 2-3 GSC) on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. inside Sillers Coliseum before traveling to Arkadelphia, Ark. on Saturday, Jan. 30 to face Henderson State (11-9, 2-3 GSC) at the Duke Wells Center. Tipoff from Arkadelphia is scheduled for 2 p.m.
The Lady Statesmen are looking to rebound after falling 56-47 to then-No. 9 Arkansas Tech in Russellville last week. The Golden Suns moved up two spots to No. 7 with the victory, which came despite a 28-point, 18-rebound performance from power forward
Veronica Walker.
Thursday’s matchup against Harding should be considerably more favorable to the Lady Statesmen, who are chasing their 44th consecutive home win. In addition to the friendly confines of Sillers Coliseum, Harding has won only twice in 19 games against Delta State.
Saturday’s game at Henderson State will mark the second time in three weeks that the Lady Statesmen have visited Arkadelphia, as they secured a 71-60 win over Ouachita Baptist on Jan. 9.
Both games will be featured on the Statesmen Sports Network starting 15 minutes prior to tipoff with the “SouthGroup Insurance Locker Room Report.” Jimmy Smith and J.T. Webb have the call.
