CLEVELAND - The Lady Statesmen (15-1, 4-1 GSC) of Delta State University found themselves in familiar territory on Wednesday, ranked among the NCAA South Region's elite in the first ranking of the 2009-2010 season.  Despite going 1-1 last week, including a tough 57-46 loss at then-No. 9 Arkansas Tech, the Lady Statesmen came into this week's poll at No. 2.

CLEVELAND – After absorbing their first loss of the season last week, the No. 6 Delta State Lady Statesmen (15-1, 4-1 GSC) aim to right the proverbial ship this week as they host Harding (9-8, 2-3 GSC) on Thursday, Jan. 28 at 6 p.m. inside Sillers Coliseum before traveling to Arkadelphia, Ark. on Saturday, Jan. 30 to face Henderson State (11-9, 2-3 GSC) at the Duke Wells Center. Tipoff from Arkadelphia is scheduled for 2 p.m.

CLEVELAND – Delta State University basketball fans have become accustomed to seeing the game played at the highest levels of NCAA Division II. Names like Scott Nagy, Carl Brown, Ramona Von Boeckman, Debbie Brock and Theresa Perry have turned the court at Walter Sillers Coliseum into their playground over the decades and this year two of the games current stars – Sarita “Bug” Cooper and Chad Akins are trying to put this small school, centered in the heart of the Mississippi Delta on the point guard map. Their play over the last two years has been nothing less than extroidinary, making DSU Division II’s – Point Guard U.
