CLEVELAND, Mississippi -- Delta State University head softball coach
Casey Bourgoyne-Charles announced on Tuesday that Raina Stiffler has been named assistant coach of the Lady Statesmen softball team.
Â
Stiffler joins the staff following the departure of David Martinez, who resigned to accept a similar position at the University of Southern Mississippi.
Â
"We are beyond thrilled to have coach Stiffler as a member of our staff," Bourgoyne-Charles said. "As a former Lady Statesman player and graduate assistant coach, Raina understands the mission and structure of our program. Her toughness and discipline are two of the standards of excellence that our program and university are built upon."
Â
After playing two seasons at DSU (2012-13), the Jacksonville, Fla., native spent one season as an assistant coach at Marion Military Institute, where she earned an associate's degree in 2010, and played for two seasons.
Â
Stiffler, who earned the prestigious Lady Statesman Award following her senior season, is expected to earn her master of Clinical Mental Health Counseling in 2018.
Â
"I am extremely honored to have the opportunity to continue working with the Delta State Softball family," Stiffler said. "This community and university have given me more than I could imagine over the past six years, and I can not think of a better way to give back."
