CLEVELAND - With 16 teams competing in two flights, the team of Jason Harris, Bradley Harris, Chris Harris and Marty Castle blistered the course, carding 15-under 57, to claim the Championship Flight of the 2nd annual Green and White Golf Classic at the Cleveland Country Club on Saturday.  Tiny Avery, Emmit McKnight, Oscar Poe and Bill Boswell turned in an 8-under 64 to claim the top spot in the First Flight.

The big winner Saturday was the Delta State Department of Athletics, as 64 golfers competed in the annual four-man scramble.  Last year's event drew 10 teams. 

"Our field grew by 50-percent this year and the competition was very good today," stated Jeremy McClain, DSU director of athletics.  "After our expenses to host the event at the Cleveland Country Club, all proceeds go directly to the Green & White Fund, which helps supplement our state budget."

McClain added that this tournament has become a way to introduce people to the Green & White Booster Club, while exposing them to our coaches and support staff.

"Our local community is vital to our successes on and off the playing field," McClain added.  "Their support, whether financial or in the stands, has helped keep our department among the most competitive in NCAA Division II and the Gulf South Conference."
