CLEVELAND - Former McMurry University football standout Coby Rich has joined the Delta State University Office of Athletic Communications as a graduate assistant, as announced by
Matt Jones on Friday.
Rich will serve as a primary contact for two Statesmen and Lady Statesmen sports, while assisting the Statesmen Sports Network with video production and broadcasting. He will begin his duties on August 5.
"We're excited Coby has decided to further his career here at Delta State," Jones stated. "He has a wealth of knowledge in multimedia and he has a desire to pursue a career in Athletic Communications."
He is currently a news editor for London Broadcasting of Beaumont, Texas, where he responsible for editing video for all news broadcasts, documenting video and daily newscasts, as well as website development and maintenance.
Prior to joining London Broadcasting, Rich worked as a Sports Department Intern at Nexstar Broadcasting of Abilene, Texas. While at Nexstar, he helped prepare daily sports reports, record local sports and news events, and wrote scripts for interviews and newscasts. He also interviewed local sports figures, including former University of Texas quarterback Colt McCoy.
The Port Neches, Texas native played four years at McMurry University, serving as team captain 2006-2008. He earned his bachelor's degree in Communications and Public Relations in May 2009 with a minor in sociology.
While at McMurry, an NCAA Division III institution in Abilene, Texas, Rich earned the McMurry Scholarship all four years and was named to the Dean's List (2008, 2009).
Rich is a 2005 graduate of Hardin-Jefferson High School of Sour Lake, Texas. He is the son of Shane Rich and Michelle Forse.
