BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - Delta State University senior rightfielder
Brooke Allgood has been named the Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Week after leading the Lady Statesmen (18-13, 6-6 GSC) to a sweep of Ouachita Baptist over the weekend. It was Allgood's superb play with the bat during the four-game series that led DSU to the series sweep.
The senior from Hueytown, Ala. hit .529 with four extra base hits - including a grand slam - scored six times and drove in 10 runs versus a Lady Tigers pitching staff that had previously posted 24 wins.
Her best performance came on Senior Day in her final University-field GSC performance for the Lady Statesmen. She went 4-for-5, scored three times, smashed a grand slam, double and drove in seven runs. The seven RBIs are a season-high for the Lady Statesmen and a career-high for Allgood.
Allgood will lead the Lady Statesmen back into action this weekend, as Delta State travels to Christian Brothers University in Memphis, Tenn., for a four-game GSC series. Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 2 p.m. with Sunday's twinbill to follow at 12 p.m. J.T. Webb will have the call on the Lady Statesmen Softball Network.
