TUNICA – The Delta State University Statesmen and Lady Statesmen Swimming & Diving teams placed second overall at the annual Tunica Invitational hosted at the Tunica Aquatics Center. Missouri State University swept the men’s and women’s competitions.

“Both teams swam well against good competition,” stated Brian Hein, DSU head coach. “It was nice to get back racing again coming off the break. Overall, we were pleased with our times considering we were coming off of Christmas training and the annual Christmas Invitational.”

The Statesmen got several key performances, but Adam Dajka and Adam Milecz stole the show on Saturday.

Dajka and Milecz went 1-2 in the 200-Free to jump start a solid finish for the Statesmen. Six other DSU competitors claimed finishes in the top 12.

Waldemar Juschin also continued to swim well for DSU, claiming the victory in the 200-Breaststroke.

Dajka and Wolfgang Mairinger also qualified for the NCAA Championships, taking first and second places in the 1000-Free.

Behind commanding performances from Milecz, Stephen Ingvoldstad, Cameron Weidele and Justin Ingvoldstad, the Statesmen dominated the field to win the 400-Free Relay by nearly four seconds.

On the ladies side, Mary Katherine Waddell turned in one of the top swims of the day, narrowly missing the win by .01 in the 200-Free – 1:58.41 to 1:58.42 to Eastern Illinois’ Lauren Zillner.
