Horstmann's late goal lifts Statesmen over Badgers 1-0

MOBILE, Ala. - David Horstmann's goal in the 69th minute lifted Delta State University (3-5-1) to a 1-0 victory Saturday over Spring Hill College (0-8) at Library Field. The Statesmen out-shot the Badgers 18-12 and 9-1 in the first half.
After a scoreless first half, the Statesmen and Badgers both had opportunities early in the second frame. Finally in the 69th minute, Horstmann put the Statesmen ahead on a penalty kick past SHC keeper Corey Bronenkamp.
DSU keeper Flavio Romero made it stand up for the 1-0 shut out win. Romero finished with eight saves in the win.
The Statesmen return to action Sept. 30 at Christian Brothers, as the Statesmen and Buccaneers open Gulf South Conference play. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
