DSU Soccer hits road for key non-conference action

The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen head for Louisiana Friday.
CLEVELAND - After battling stiff early season competition, the Delta State University Statesmen and Lady Statesmen Soccer teams will take to the road this weekend for a key non-conference swing.  The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen battle Louisiana College Friday in Pineville, before the ladies square-off with Louisiana Tech Sunday in Ruston.

"We're definitely ready to get the girls back out on the field," stated Jim Allen.  "They've had nearly two weeks off from competition and I expect a high energy level and solid play from them this weekend.  For the men's team, we have certainly stepped up our play, but we have a long way to go."

The Statesmen defeated Union University 3-2 last week behind two goals from Josh Jokic, and tied Lee University, a strong NAIA program, 2-2 on Thursday.

The Lady Statesmen have split their first two contests of the season, defeating Alcorn State 2-1 and falling 1-0 at Mississippi College.  Jackie Kelly and Kristen Stensholt played well in both matches for the green-and-white.

Friday's doubleheader begins at 3 p.m. with Sunday's game at LaTech scheduled for 1 p.m.
