Lady Statesmen Softball inks eight in fall signing period

CLEVELAND - Coach Casey Bourgoyne-Charles and the Delta State University Lady Statesmen softball program announced the signings of eight student-athletes to national letters of intent on Monday, Nov. 16.  The eight signees represents one of the largest fall recruiting classes for DSU softball in many years. 

"We're very excited about the talent level and ability of this year's class and believe they will do great things here at DSU," stated Bourgoyne-Charles.  "We still have a few scholarships to give and will probably sign a few more players in the spring. 

A complete breakdown of the fall signing class is below.

Victoria Combs – Rockwall Heath High School – Heath, Texas - Pitcher
Plays summer ball with the Texas Glory Gold. Bourgoyne-Charles on Combs, "She's a strong pitcher, who can also hit and play first base."

Kylie Sumners – Wylie High SchoolWylie, Texas - 3B/Infield 
Played summer ball with the Texas Glory Gold. Bourgoyne-Charles on Sumners, "Kylie is a third baseman, who can hit for power and has a strong academic background."

Lauren Lewis – Marion Military Institute - Saraland, Ala. - Utility
Bourgoyne-Charles on Lewis, "Lauren's a very versatile athlete that can play infield and outfield. She is clearly very disciplined and has great leadership qualities."

Ashton King – St. Andrews High School - Utica, Miss. - OF
Bourgoyne-Charles on King, "Ashton is an outfielder who can cover a lot of ground with her quickness. She is also a left handed hitter with speed on the bases."

Emily Todd – Clinton High School - Clinton, Miss. - 3B/C
Bourgoyne-Charles on Todd, "Emily is an all-around athlete. She can hit for power. Defensively she has a very strong arm and the ability to play anywhere on the field."

Laken Wilson – Bayou Academy - Cleveland - Utility
Played summer ball with the Mississippi Elite. Bourgoyne-Charles on Wilson, "Laken's a local speedster who has the ability to play both in the infield and outfield."

Meagan Church – Horn Lake High School - Southaven - Infield
Bourgoyne-Charles on Church, "Meagan's a very athletic middle infielder. She played competitive summer ball under Coach Kaliski with the Germantown (Tenn.) Red Devils."

Katie Hebert – Pearl River High School - Pearl River, La. - Pitcher
Played summer ball with the Mississippi Elite. Bourgoyne-Charles on Hebert, "Katie's an extremely hard working and determined pitcher. Her presence on the mound is that of a true competitor."
