
Chico Potts
Assistant Coach
Chico Potts enters his second season as the primary assistant on Jason Conner's staff at Delta State. He will serve as primary assistant coach and recruiting coordinator.
Prior to coming to DSU, Potts served as head coach of the junior varsity and as an assistant to David Bell at Tupelo High School.
While at THS, Potts led the junior varsity team to a record of 45-7 in three seasons as head coach. Prior to joining Bell’s staff, Potts spent the 2002-03 season coaching at Greenville-Weston High School. The Hornets finished the year with a 20-9 mark.
The Indianola native first entered the coaching ranks as a Graduate Assistant from 2000-2002 at Delta State under the legendary Statesman coach Steve Rives.
Potts’ was also quite the player during his collegiate career. During his time at Delta State University, the 6-5 guard was named Team Captain, Most Outstanding Player, Gulf South Conference West Division Player of the Year, and Honor Mention All-American. Prior to joining the Statesmen, Potts played one year at Louisiana State University.
Potts was a standout player for Gentry High School in Indianola from 1992-95. He garnered the Most Outstanding and Take-Charge Team Award while being named an Honorable Mention All-State Player for the Rams.
Potts is married to the former Kimberly Hurd of Corinth, MS. The couple has two daughters, Tiara and Patience.
