On top of his many roles, Doug Pinkerton has added the head coach position for women’s cross country.
Pinkerton served as head coach from 2003-2006, lead the 2005 cross country to a No. 7 ranking in the NCAA regional poll, the first national ranking in the history of the program. Pinkerton also coached the program’s first All-Gulf South Conference runner in 2006.
Pinkerton, an endurance athlete himself, has competed in over 35 triathlons, 1 half-marathon, 1 marathon, 3 half-ironmans, and finished his first Ironman this past April.
Pinkerton, a native of Winona, began his career coaching several sports at Calhoun Academy after graduating from Mississippi State in 1993 with a physical education degree concentrating in teaching and coaching education.
Pinkerton also coached at Strider Academy and Sharkey –Issaquena Academy before coming to Delta State as a graduate assistant for Lloyd Clark and the women’s basketball program in 1997.
While coaching with Clark, Pinkerton earned a Master of Education in Health, Physical Education and Recreation. Pinkerton then became an instructor and was named the Director of Recreation and Wellness Activities.
Pinkerton is also the intramural director, fitness center director, HPER facilities director, and assistant aquatics director, among other duties he serves on campus.
Pinkerton is currently working toward a Doctorate in Education and is very active in several ministries. He serves as a deacon at First Baptist and holds speaking engagements for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and TRI4GOD ministry.
