
Rick McCarty
Rick McCarty is in his third season as an assistant coach at Delta State University and his fifth overall on the staff.
Since taking over the pitching staff in 2004, McCarty has coached the Statesmen to three-straight NCAA top eight finishes in several pitching categories.
Over the last four years he has coach two American Baseball Coaches Association/Rawlings South-Central Region Pitchers of the Year in Brad Lightsey (2005) and Rusty Rayborn (2006). He has also coached three All-Americans and 15 All-Gulf South Conference selections.
Two former Statesmen, Brent Leach (Dodgers) and Brett Durand (Marlins), are currently working to make their way into the big leagues after pitching for McCarty at DSU. Leach was a fourth round selection by Los Angeles in 2005 and Durand went in the eleventh round in 2007 to Florida. While not drafted, Taylor Fleming, a submarine-style righthander, is working his way up through the Independent ranks with the San Angelo Colts of San Angelo, Texas.
McCarty spent his first two seasons as a graduate assistant for Coach Mike Kinnison. His primary duties include pitching instruction, recruiting and game scouting.
McCarty is a 2003 graduate of Murray State University in Murray, Kentucky. He spent two seasons as a closer for the Racer baseball program.
McCarty is married to Rayna and the couple just had their child, Mya. They reside in Cleveland.
