Statesmen soccer signs Ontario keeper

CLEVELAND—The Delta State men's soccer team added a new member, as head coach Matt Watts signed goalkeeper Mackenzie Pytyck to the Statesmen program.

“Delta State was suggested to me by a very trustworthy and long time friend and I further looked into the school,” Pytyck said. “After I had the opportunity to go down and visit DSU and play with the team, it then came clear to me that Delta State University was the right place for me.”

Pytyck, a native of Thunder Bay, Ontario, Canada, has been a member of the Thunder Bay Chill Reserve team. The club has won the Ontario Cup Championship in 2009, and 2011. The squad has also place second in the indoor Ontario Cup Championships the past three years.  In 2009 the club team took home gold in the Wendy's Mini World Cup Tournament when they beat Italy in the finals.

Pytyck was also the goalkeeper for St. Patrick High School in Thunder Bay. The squad has won their indoor championship the past three years; and has placed second in the outdoor championship the past two seasons.

“The warm weather (much warmer then my hometown), the great atmosphere, and how close everyone seems to be only added on to my hope of attending Delta State,” Pytyck said. “Coach Matt seems to be a very organized coach and knows exactly what he wants to do with the team, and I very happy and honored that he has chosen me to be a part of that.”
