CANTON, Ohio - The Lady Statesmen and Statesmen held their spots from day three through the final day of competition in Canton, Ohio. Swimming and Diving head coach Brian Hein has two of the top 20 squads in the nation as the Lady Statesmen finished 20th and the Statesmen finished 15th in Division II swimming and diving.
Drury University once again showed their dominance, winning both the Women's and Men's team National Championships.
In the second event of the final day, the Statesmen got a boost when
Wolfgang Mairinger streaked through the water in the longest event of the competition. Mairinger finished fourth in the 1650 Yard Freestyle in 15:34.12, just 11 tenths of a second out of third place.
A few races later in the 100 Yard Freestyle,
Justin Ingvoldstad finished his Delta State career by grabbing 31st in 46.54 and
Adam Milecz continued to show what is in store for the rest of his career in the Green and White by touching the wall in the 22nd best time of 46.19.
Deniz Guner and
Stephen Ingvoldstad also swam that race, finishing in 47th and 51st respectively.
Freshman
Adam Dajka ended his year on a positive as well by grabbing sixth in the 200 Yard Backstroke with a time of 1:49.52.
Waldemar Juschin, the junior from Frankfurt, Germany had the 25th best race in the 200 Yard Breaststroke, swimming in 2:09.97.
In the final event of the Nationals, the grouping of
Justin Ingvoldstad,
Adam Milecz,
Deniz Guner and Steven Ingvoldstad# swam the 400 Yard Freestyle Relay in 3:07.00, which was good enough for 18th.
The Lady Statesmen, in the second event of the evening session, sophomore
Sam Fajardo finished 24th in the 100 Yard Freestyle in a time of 52.42.
Mary Katherine Waddell, the sophomore from Florence, Ala. grabbed 46th.
In the most impressive swim on the ladies side of the final day,
Hannah Willis took seventh in the 200 Yard Backstroke, with a time of 2:03.88.
And finally, in the last women's event of the 2010 Division II National Championships, the quad of Waddell, Willis, Fajardo and
Alyce Meador finished tied for 26th with Shippensburg University's group with a time of 3:35.62.
All 18 swimmers made their presence felt on a national level and it was a great season for the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen in 2009-2010.
