CANTON, OHIO - After the first day of competition of the 2010 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton, Ohio the Statesmen are in 15th and the Lady Statesmen are in 27th. With a field of some of the best swimmers and relay teams in the country, Brian Hein's bunch is primed for another great showing in Nationals.
The Statesmen used another strong swim from Freshman
Adam Dajka as he took fifth in the 1000 Yard Freestyle with a 9:20.68.
Wolfgang Mairinger finished 23rd in the race, hitting the wall in 9:33.53
Senior
Justin Ingvoldstad started strong with a 15th place finish in the 50 Yard Freestyle, touching the wall in 20.69. Justin's brother,
Stephen Ingvoldstad finished the 50 yard freestyle in 21.04, good enough for 26th overall. Sophomore #Adam Milecz@ finished 17 tenths of a second behind
Stephen Ingvoldstad and took 35th in the 50 yard freestyle.
Alex Lorenz, the sophomore from Geislingen, Germany, finished 35th in the 200 Yard Individual Medley in 1:56.68. Lorenz also had a hand in the 15th place Statesmen finish in the 200 Yard Medley Relay, when he teamed up with Dajka,
Waldemar Juschin and
Justin Ingvoldstad to swim the relay in 1:33.72.
For the Lady Statesmen, senior
Hannah Willis registered the loan point with a 16th place finish in the 1000 Yard Freestyle. The Pensacola, Fla. native was five seconds out of the top ten, finishing the longest race of the day in 10:31.31.
The 50 Yard Freestyle saw
Sam Fajardo finish 25th with a prelims swim of 24.06. In the same event,
Mary Katherine Waddell finished 55th with a time of 24.70. Fajardo also was part of the 26th place 200 Yard Medley Relay team along with junior
Alyce Meador, senior
Amanda Guidry and junior
Stormi Valentine in a prelims time of 1:48.54.
Freshman
Hannah Boudreaux touched the wall in the 53rd best time in the 200 Yard Individual Medley, with a time of 2:14.14.
The national qualifiers in the green and white of Delta State will return to the pool for day two action in Canton, Ohio. Prelims start at 10:30 AM EST with the finals set to begin at 6:00 PM EST. To follow the action live,
