CLEVELAND – The No. 12 Lady Statesmen (16-2, 5-2 GSC) of Delta State University look to rebound from Saturday’s 68-55 loss at Henderson State (13-9, 3-4 GSC) this Thursday, as the green-and-white host the Lady Tigers (10-10, 2-5 GSC) of Ouachita Baptist University. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum. The game will be the centerpiece of the annual “Green Out Sillers Staff Appreciation Night.”

The Lady Statesmen defeated the Lady Tigers 83-69 on Jan. 9 at Bill Vining Arena. Delta State also leads the all-time series 20-3.

It was a record setting week for junior point guard Sarita “Bug” Cooper. The 5-foo-6 junior became the all-time NCAA era leader in assists with 566, breaking the previous mark of 563 held by Theresa Perry (1992-95). Cooper needs just 38 assists to become the all-time leader in Gulf South Conference history in just three seasons.

Sophomore sensation Veronica Walker, this week’s GSC West Division Player of the Week, has been unstoppable over the last two weeks. The 6-foot-1 All-American candidate is averaging 29.7 points and 16.7 rebounds in her last three outings, including three-straight double-doubles. On the season, Walker is averaging 19.7 points and 9.1 boards per contest.

Thursday’s game will be featured on the Statesmen Sports Network starting 15 minutes prior to tipoff with the “SouthGroup Insurance Locker Room Report.” Jimmy Smith and J.T. Webb have the call.
