Statesmen and Lady Statesmen in second after day one of the Tunica Invitational

TUNICA - After the first day of competition the Lady Statesmen and Statesmen are trailing only Missouri State in the 2010 Tunica Invitational. The Lady Statesmen have 336 points and are 225 points down to MSU. With 433 points, the Statesmen are 129.5 points behind MSU.

Amanda Guidry had a big day, winning the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:09.93. Stephanie Gonzalez grabbed third in that same race with a 2:12.51 mark. Hannah Willis took third in the 200 backstroke at 2:10.59. Keeping with that strong trend toward the end of the event, Samantha Fajardo finished fourth and Mary Katherine Waddell was two tenths of a second behind to take fifth in the 100 freestyle with times of 54:69 and 54:71 respectively.

The Statesmen started early with a win in the second event, taking the 800 yard freestyle relay with a time of 6:57.64. Wolfgang Mairinger won the 500 freestyle in a time of 4:43.31 to continue his strong season. Two events later in the 100 breaststroke, Waldemar Juschin finished second by recording a time of 1:00.00.

The 100 freestyle saw two Statesmen finish in the top five when Justin Ingvoldstad took third with a mark of 47:13 and Adam Milecz was right behind him in fourth with a time of 47:15. In the only other Statesmen win, Adam Dajka topped all in the 200 backstroke, finishing in 1:51.48.
