Lady Statesmen No. 2 in NCAA South Region rankings

CLEVELAND - The Lady Statesmen (15-1, 4-1 GSC) of Delta State University found themselves in familiar territory on Wednesday, ranked among the NCAA South Region's elite in the first ranking of the 2009-2010 season. Despite going 1-1 last week, including a tough 57-46 loss at then-No. 9 Arkansas Tech, the Lady Statesmen came into this week's poll at No. 2.
Arkansas Tech took the top spot, followed by DSU, Fort Valley State, Tampa and Florida Southern in the top five. Valdosta State was sixth with Benedict, Christian Brothers, Rollins and Barry rounding out the top 10.
The top eight teams in the final NCAA South Region Poll will advance to the NCAA South Region Tournament to be held on college campuses March 12-15, 2010.
