BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Three Delta State University softball players were named to the All-Gulf South Conference softball team as released on Wednesday.
Junior shortstop/third baseman
Brittany Eikner was named to the first team, while pitcher
Edie Oliver and center fielder
Brittany Tillery were named to the second team. “I am so proud of these three young ladies,” said first year head coach Casey Bourgoyne. “They are each very deserving of this honor,” Bourgoyne added.
Eikner is having one of her best seasons at the plate for DSU this season. This marks the second time the she was named to the All GSC Team. The Grenada native is currently batting .286 with a career high five home runs and ranks second on the team with 27 runs batted in. Just as impressive, Eikner has committed just four errors in 139 chances the field. She was twice named GSC West Player of the Week.
Junior pitcher
Edie Oliver was named to the All GSC Team for the second time in her career after being named to the first team in her freshman season. The Eupora native has set career highs with 18 wins and 125 strikeouts in 201.2 innings pitched. Oliver has claimed the GSC West Pitcher of the Week honors twice this season, once after throwing her first career no hitter in a 5-0 win over LSU Alexandria on Feb. 11.
Senior
Brittany Tillery added another accomplishment to her dazzling career, as she was named to the All GSC Team for the third consecutive year. Tillery was named to the First Team following the 2007 and 2008 seasons. Tillery was also named to the Daktronics All-Region team following her junior campaign. The Starkville native currently leads the Lady Statesmen with a .345 batting average and 28 runs batted in and ranks second on the team with five home runs. The speedy center fielder ranks first in the GSC with 27 stolen bases.
The Lady Statesmen will return to action on Friday May 1, as they travel to Southaven for the 2009 Gulf South Conference Tournament to take on the #1 NFCA ranked Alabama Huntsville Lady Chargers at 9:30 a.m.
