BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-After a strong fourth place finish at the recent Gulf South Conference Golf Championship, Statesmen golfer Brandon Hartzell qualified as an individual for the 2009 NCAA South Region Tournament to be held May 4-6 in Florence, Ala.
The senior was granted one of four individual entries into the tournament which will be played on the famed Robert Trent Jones of the Shoals course. Hartzell helped lead the Statesmen to a fifth place finish in the GSC Championship after carding a three round total of even par 216.
The Sioux Falls, S.D. native continued to reap the rewards of his excellent play later in the week, as the coaches from the GSC recognized the four-year letterman with Second Team All-GSC honors. He routninely led the Statesmen with the low-round each week, while directing the Statesmen to one tournament win on the season.
“I am very proud of Brandon,” said Statesmen golf coach Sam Dunning. “He has come a long way throughout his career and we know he will represent Delta State well at the tournament,” Dunning added.
