Statesmen drop two matches in Gulf South Conference Tournament

MONTGOMERY, Ala.-The Delta State University men's tennis team dropped a pair of matches at the Gulf South Conference Tournament Championships in Montgomery, Ala.
The Statesmen fell 5-0 to the first seeded West Florida Argonauts on Friday, and dropped a 5-0 decision to Alabama Huntsville in the consolation semifinals.
The doubles team of
Julien Beckensteiner and
Thiago Marion fell 8-0 to UWF, and the team of
Felipe Fonseca and Gui Russo were knocked off 8-3. The Argos won matches three through five by default.
In the 5-0 loss to Alabama-Huntsville, Beckensteiner and Marion lost a tough 9-7 match to open doubles play, but UAH would easily defeat Fonseca and Russo 8-1. UAH would claim the other three wins by default.
The Statesmen end the 2009 campaign with a 2-7 record.
