Lady Statesmen victorious over ATU and HSU; Have now won last seven matches

ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Delta State University women’s tennis team swept a pair of GSC matches in Arkadelphia, Ark., over the weekend.

The Lady Statesmen improved their record to 7-2 on the season and have won their last seven matches. On March 14, the Lady Statesmen proved too tough for the Arkansas Tech Golden Suns, as DSU claimed the match 5-1.

Cecile Benzaki, Lisa Jamais, Milena Araujo, and Krystle Ozols each picked up straight sets singles wins. The teams of Ozols/Jamais and Araujo/Priscilla Duarte picked up wins in doubles play. Carson and Matsuoka defeated Benzaki/Tatiana Bouchaud in the only win of the match for ATU.

The Lady Statesmen would carry their momentum into Sunday against Henderson State, as DSU claimed a 7-2 victory.Lisa Jamais, Milena Araujo, Priscilla Duarte, and Amanda Cornelison each picked up wins in singles play for DSU. Tatiana Bouchaud suffered the only setback in singles play for DSU, as she was defeated 1-6, 6-3 (10-7). Benzaki/Bouchaud and Araujo/Jamais won in doubles play in the win.

The Lady Statesmen will return to the court on March 23, as they play host to Christian Brothers.
