COLUMBUS, Ga.-After a serious threat for a top-5 finish, the Delta State University golf team finished in seventh place at the Aflac/Cougar Invitational hosted by Columbus State University.

The Statesmen shot a two day total of +12 over par 580. The Statesmen finished the second round with a team total of 292, which was four shots higher than the first round total of 288.

Casey Patterson and Chase Smith both tied for 16th place after both shot two day totals of +1 over par 143. The best score in the second round for the Statesmen was an even par 71 shot by Seth McBrayer. McBrayer finished the tournament in a tie for 33rd with a 36-hole total of 145. Austin Smithers and Jordan Breaux rounded out the scoring with two round totals of 150 and 155 respectively.

Barry University took home the title with an outstanding team total of -7 under par 561 over 36 holes. Craig Gibson of Georgia Southwestern took home the individual honors with a -5 under par 137 after a second round -6 under par 65.

The Statesmen return to the course on Oct. 19-20 as they travel to Destin, Fla., for the UNA Fall Classic.
