David Horstmann finished his senior season with 10 goals.
CLEVELAND – The Alabama-Huntsville Chargers scored four unanswered goals in the second half to topple Delta State 4-1 in the Statesmen's season finale Sunday afternoon at Delta Field.

Sean Kerber netted the match-winner in the 73rd and Kota Kashiwagi added tallies in the 77th and 80th minute as the Chargers (5-6-3) improved to 3-0-1 in the Gulf South Conference.

The Statesmen (3-10-1) ended the season winless in five GSC matches.

David Horstmann gave the Statesmen a 1-0 six minutes after the break when he completed a long run and fired home a shot from seven yards away with a defender marking him closely.

Horstmann, a senior, netted his 10th goal of the season.

As the Charger lead grew, play got chippy as five yellow cards were issued between the two teams.

The Alabama-Huntsville victory spoiled the Senior Day festivities for the Statesmen. Four senior players – Horstmann, Patrick Grafton, David Wages and Jonathan Jackson were honored at halftime.

Horstmann finished his career as the leading goal-scorer in Delta State history with 32 goals. He and Wages both played in 65 games as Statesmen.
