ARKADELPHIA, Ark. – The Delta State soccer teams dropped both ends of a men’s-women’s doubleheader at Ouachita Baptist on Sunday, with the Statesmen falling 2-1 and the Lady Statesmen succumbing by a score of 4-2.

The men’s match was scoreless for the first 66 minutes before OBU took the lead on a goal from Alex Tonrey. David Horstmann netted an equalizer on a penalty kick in the 70th minute.

The Tigers needed only a few more minutes to net the match-winner off the foot of Rizvan Ceka in the 74th minute.

The physical and spirited contest saw nine yellow cards issued and three players sent off with red cards.

The Statesmen (3-9-1) dropped their fourth consecutive contest and fell to 0-3 in the Gulf South Conference.

In the early match, the Lady Statesmen snapped their six-match scoreless streak but suffered their seventh consecutive setback.

Mikael Mendez was the player of the match as she scored her first two goals of the season.

Four different Lady Tigers scored in the match, with Miranda Lytle netting what turned out to be the winner in the 60th minute.

The Lady Statesmen (2-8) fell to 0-4 in GSC play. They will have one more match in Arkansas, a non-conference fixture against Lyon College in Batesville on Tuesday.

Both the Statesmen and the Lady Statesmen will start a three-match homestand on Friday when they host Lambuth University. The women will kick off the doubleheader at 1 p.m.
