SEARCY, Ark. - The Delta State University cross country team has endured a long and tough season filled with a injuries and surprises.  Saturday, the Lady Statesmen wrapped up the 2008 season at the NCAA South Regional hosted by Harding University.  The 6K event was held on Harding's picturesque campus.

While the Lady Statesmen only raced four runners and did not receive a team score, Delta State turned in a strong showing. Rachel Gavin, a freshman from Batesville, Ark., showed why coach Doug Pinkerton is excited about her future with the Lady Statesmen with a 65th place finish.  The 5-foot-2 speedster has been hampered by injuries this season, but fought them off to record a 26:08 finish.

Whitney Springer, another talented freshman from Central City, Ky., crossed the line in 26:13 to finish in 69th place.

Angie Libby, a St. Louis, Mo., native, wrapped up a stellar career for Delta State finishing 90th with a 27:30.  Libby, one of the all-time greats at DSU on the soccer field, competed for the cross country program this fall in her first semester in graduate school.

Rounding out DSU's performers was Amanda Cornielison.  The sophomore, two-sport star from Cleveland finished 116th with a time of 29:54.  She is also a member of the Lady Statesmen tennis team.
