Josh Gordon, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound senior for the Statesmen baseball team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Monday, Feb. 8. It's the first honor this season for Gordon and the first for DSU baseball.
The Vicksburg native led the No. 23 Statesmen to a 2-1-1 season-opening week down in the sunshine state of Florida. In four games, Gordon batted .467 (7-of-15) with a double, two home runs and five RBIs.
In DSU's 4-3 win over Nova Southeastern in game one a doubleheader, the power-hitting third baseman launched the game-winning solo home run in the sixth inning over the Sharks left field wall. He also collected three RBIs in the Statesmen's 11-4 thumping of Nova in the series finale.
