Moe Bell, a 5-foot-10 shooting guard for the No. 12 Lady Statesmen basketball team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Monday, Feb. 8. It's the first honor this season for Bell and the eighth for women's basketball.
Bell helped keep the Lady Statesmen rebound from a disappointing loss on Jan. 30 at Henderson State with a 20 point effort in a 73-37 dismantling of Ouachita Baptist on Thursday, Feb. 4 at Sillers Coliseum. The junior from Madison connected on 5-of-12 three-point attempts en route to her personal best at Sillers Coliseum.
The former MPSA Player of the Year at Madison-Ridgeland Academy is also poised to become Delta State's career leader in made three-pointers, needing just two to take over the top spot from Tonya Redmond (187/1995-98). Bell has connected on 186-of-421 career three-points and ranks as the second best three-point shooter in GSC history at 44.3 percent.
This season, Bell is averaging 8.6 points per game and has drilled 51-of-123 three-point attempts.
