April 15, 2008 DELTA STATE ATHLETICS TO HOST SPECIAL BLOOD DRIVE SATURDAY, APRIL 19 TO BENEFIT INJURED DSU STUDENTS CLEVELAND –Saturday, April 19 Delta State Athletics will host one of the most important events on campus this year, a special blood drive to benefit injured students Caitlin Dudley and Regan Niemann, who were injured in an automobile accident on March 29, and “Molly’s Mile Fund.” The event will run from noon-4 p.m. at Statesmen Park. “This blood drive will be unlike any other on campus this year. Every pint collected will benefit Caitlin and Regan through a special program with Mississippi Blood Services. It’s very important that we have a great turnout, because every donation will make an impact on Caitlin and Regan,” said Jeremy McClain, Director of Athletics. Mississippi Blood Services is also donating special transfusion insurance policies for Dudley and Niemann. These policies are retroactive and can be used on any transfusion Dudley or Niemann may have already received. For every blood donation collected Saturday, Dudley and Niemann will receive credit for any pint they have already received or for any needed in the future. This program will also benefit the family of Merve Terzioglu, a native of Istanbul, Turkey and member of the DSU swim team, who passed away April 7 from injuries received in the accident. Dudley, a freshman distance swimmer from Huntsville, Ala., continues to receive treatment at University Medical Center in Jackson, while Niemann, a junior from Orlando, Fla., was released from Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, Tenn., on April 12 to continue care at home. For more information on the blood drive or “Molly’s Mile Fund,” please contact DSU Athletics at (662) 846-4300 or email us at athletics@deltastate.edu.
